Valley Bike Month 2021
It’s April 1st and you know what that means? Why it’s Valley Bike Month! That time of year when we all (normally) get together and do fun bike stuff. While nearly all of the events that usually occur have been canceled this year you can still log your trips, including Vanpool, Transit and Telework(?) on SharetheRide.com then enter contests for prizes like a gift card to Home Depot, Dutch Bros, Carrabbas, Harkins, and others.
While we have to hold off on large gatherings like the Tour de Tempe and the many Bike to Work breakfasts we can reflect on how great our bikeway system is. Check out how Scottsdale’s network has grown since this January 1974 article grabbed from Newspapers.com (click image to enlarge in new tab).

For a bit of nostalgia read this groovy publicity pamphlet created for the City of Tempe about how they developed their plan starting in the early 70s as one of the more recent bike booms were tapering off (click image to open PDF in new tab, 32 pages 6MB).
As always, we’re working to make bicycling better but it’s fun to reflect on how great it is right now, so get out and ride!
If you don’t already have an Amazon Smile Charity you can add us so that they will donate a fraction of their profits to our bicycle 501(c)3 non-profit. You can go to smile.amazon.com and search for Tempe Bicycle Action Group.
