League of American Bicyclists Smart Cycling class

We are hosting a LAB Smart Cycling class over the weekend of May 20th and 21st!
Note: this class is a pre-requisite to the instructor certification offered by the League.

In cooperation with the Phoenix Metro Bicycle Club and their LCI Kathy Mills we’ll have class over two mornings to avoid the higher temperatures. Our President has offered space at his business near Broadway and the 101, just into Mesa, to reduce the class costs. Registration is $25 and is capped at 16 students.

Class details

What is the general principle for selecting a lane? Where should you ride in a narrow left turn only lane? Where do most bicycle-motor vehicle crashes occur? You want the skills and confidence to bike safely. The League of American Bicyclists’ Smart Cycling program gives you the knowledge and resources you need to get out and ride! This curriculum offers in-depth details for new and experienced riders on how to ride more safely, confidently, and more often in various terrains and climates.

Besides learning where to ride on the road to avoid an accident, knowing how to ride safely also means knowing the laws, rules of the road, and principles of traffic law. It also means ensuring your bicycle is in good working order, how to share trails and sidewalks, and what to do in the event of a crash. This class consists of a 3-hour classroom training session as well as a 2-hour outdoor session, to practice your newly learned skills.

WHEN:
