Wednesday: Tempe Bike to Work and School Day
Just a reminder that tomorrow (Wednesday) is Tempe Bike to Work and School Day! This is a great day to encourage friends, family, and coworkers to dust off that bike that’s been gathering cobwebs, put some air in the tires and some oil on the chain, grab a helmet, and try a ride to work.
There will be five breakfast stations open from 6-8 am that are spread throughout Tempe, and volunteers from TBAG will be present at each of the stations to provide support and advice on commuting by bicycle (thanks for your input on that). City staff will also be there, providing breakfast snacks and free t-shirts on a first-come, first-serve basis. The locations include:
1. Whole Foods Market (NW corner of Rural and Baseline)
2. Wildflower Bread Company (SW corner of McClintock and Guadalupe)
3. Berning’s Fine Jewelry (SW corner of McClintock and Warner)
4. Sixth Street Park (by City Hall)
5. IKEA Tempe (NW corner of Priest and Warner)
The mayor, Hugh Hallman, will also lead a ride from Whole Foods to the Sixth Street Park at 7 am.
It should be a whole lot of fun! I hope to see you there (well, I might not actually see you unless you’re headed past Berning’s…).
The whole thing also makes me think: what if there were a bicycle commuting traffic report in the morning? I can hear it now: “All bike lanes are wide open and accessible for bicyclists, and it’s a beautiful spring day with nary a traffic jam in sight.”
What a great day for a bike ride! I rode 11 miles out of my way to meet up with a newbie and he loved it.
Viva la Velorution!
Way to go! I hope he becomes a regular convert. Keep it up, one person at a time… 🙂
